The Tragedy of Digital Space Series
The Tragedy of Digital Space series looks at how digital spaces connect people across different places and how these connections are changing the way we relate to one another. It is influenced by the idea of the tragedy of the commons, first described in 1833 by the British economist William Forster Lloyd and later popularised by ecologist Garrett Hardin in his 1968 essay. The idea explains how individuals acting in their own self-interest can unintentionally harm a shared resource. The work reflects on how our individual actions online can build up and affect these spaces for everyone, changing how we experience both digital and physical worlds. our interdependent digital spaces and how social relations stretched over geographical physical space are continually evolving.
