Woodcuts as part of the Redefine Redesign Reconstruct Series
a series of experimental woodcuts developed as offshoots of my photographic practice from the Redefine, Redesign, Reconstruct series rooted in my lived experience in Beijing’s Chaoyang district. Based on my immediate environment, Reconstruct emerged from observations of Beijing's rapid growth where entire neighbourhoods disappeared to make way for new developments. Empty landscapes, often covered with green protective sheeting, became temporary spaces that both concealed and revealed the scale of transformation. Through layered photographic works, the series reflects on the tension between construction and erasure, exploring how urban change reshapes memory, identity, and place. The works consider the fragile traces of communities once embedded within these landscapes, inviting reflection on what is lost, preserved, and reimagined as cities continually reconstruct themselves.
